Spiritual Intelligence

/files/My Sample Gallery/adult babies.jpgWhy is it that some people can attend church their entire lives, without ever becoming mature?  Inspite of hearing scores of sermons, sitting through years of Sunday school and Bible studies, and serving in ministry for decades, very few grow up.  An increasing number of researchers and pastors are raising this concern.  The issue is that of Spiritual Intelligence (SI), how to keep from going from Pampers to Depends without maturing.

After 50 years of attending church including 25 years leading in church, Alan Nelson has concluded why it is so few followers of Jesus ever become Christlike.  The primary reason is not lack of commitment, sin, or bad attitude.  The key factor is one of methodology.  While we study what Jesus said and what he did, we rarely focus on "how" Jesus discipled his followers.  In a landmark book (Baker Books), Dr. Nelson shares his best practices and learnings of how Jesus matured his followers, so that after only three years, these people changed history.  Click HERE to download a free, book excerpt.  Click here to go to the publisher's website for this book.

/files/Book Pictures/SI graphic web version.jpgFree SI Assessment: Alan is available to teach on the topic of Spiritual Intelligence for your church as well as SI retreats that provide experiential mentoring opportunties with Dr. Nelson.  Participants learn how to develop their own soul growth plan, including the creation of a "Travel Team," assessment, mutually earned accountability, and "Path Finding."  Through the instrument called, "The Journey," you can create your own spiritual growth plan that implements the four methods Jesus combined for creating spiritually intelligent followers.

Click HERE for a FREE pdf of The Journey, along with a feedback form you can give to people who know, live and work around you for their perspectives.  This obviously works best if a third, neutral party gathers these so people can be confident their responses will remaind confidential so they can be honest.  Most of this should be self-explanatory, but instructions and key will be added to this site soon.

Here's what national leaders are saying about this new book:

“Alan Nelson’s Spiritual Intelligence begins precisely where any sound treatment of spiritual maturity ought to begin, namely, with an examination of Jesus’s own view of the subject. I’m afraid much of what passes for growth and spiritual intelligence in contemporary Christianity resembles what Nelson labels ‘faux fruit.’ In a world increasingly filled with paid-for experiences, people wishing to truly follow Jesus had better heed the call, embrace these disciplines, and grow in faith, knowing the world offers no better experience.”

—James H. Gilmore, coauthor, The Experience Economy: Work Is Theatre & Every Business a Stage (Harvard Business School Press)

“Why would we not do things the way that Jesus did them? This is the center of Alan Nelson’s argument in Spiritual Intelligence. Could multiplying mature disciples as Jesus did work for us as it worked for him?” —Tony and Felicity Dale, coauthors with George Barna of The Rabbit and The Elephant; www.simplechurch.com

“Part science, part art, part journey map, Spiritual Intelligence provides us with a thorough and consistent approach to life following the One we love. A useful tool in the hands of the disciple.” —Alan Hirsch, author of The Forgotten Ways and coauthor of Untamed

“It is amazing that we take the time to plan, set goals and think through so many things in life, but so often do not have a plan or think through our spiritual growth. Alan Nelson’s Spritual Intelligence is an incredible tool to understand this and have measurable ways of seeing movement in developing toward spiritual maturity.” —Dan Kimball, author of They Like Jesus But Not the Church

“In our day of ‘Christianity Lite,’ when most are looking for just enough spirituality to make us feel good but not necessarily enough to change us, Alan Nelson provides a way through the mess. Spiritual Intelligence invites us on a journey of faith development that follows in the steps of Jesus: getting back to the basic transformational principles that he used to turn fishermen into world changers.” —Rick Rusaw, pastor of LifeBridge Christian Church; coauthor of The Externally Focused Church, The Externally Focused Life, and Becoming an Externally Focused Church: Growing into the Best Church for the Community
